Service Description
Pilots who have previously received an FAA Special Issuance medical certificate may be eligible for renewal through the AME-Assisted Special Issuance (AASI) process. This allows an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) to review required documentation and reissue your medical certificate if FAA criteria are met. At Seattle Aviation Medical, we provide efficient AASI renewal exams and documentation review to help pilots maintain medical certification and return to flying as quickly as possible. Who Needs an AASI Renewal This service is for pilots who already received a Special Issuance authorization from the FAA and require periodic renewal exams. Common conditions that may require AASI monitoring include: • Obstructive sleep apnea • Coronary artery disease or cardiac procedures • Certain neurological conditions • History of cancer • Other FAA monitored medical conditions What to Bring to Your Appointment To avoid delays, please bring: • Your FAA Special Issuance authorization letter • All required test results or specialist reports • List of current medications • Government photo ID • Your MedXPress confirmation number Appointment Process Schedule an AASI renewal appointment Required documentation is reviewed by the AME If FAA requirements are satisfied, your medical certificate may be issued during the visit
Cancellation Policy
FAA Medical Exam Booking, Cancellation, and Waitlist Policy Our office provides efficient, pilot-focused FAA medical exams with dedicated physician time and minimal wait. To keep scheduling reliable and fair for all pilots, please review the policies below. Booking FAA medical exam appointments reserve dedicated Aviation Medical Examiner time. Please complete your MedXPress application before your appointment and bring your confirmation number, government-issued photo ID, medication list, corrective lenses (if used), and any relevant medical or specialist documentation. Arrival We schedule with buffer time to avoid rushed exams. Please arrive on time. If you are delayed, contact us as soon as possible — we will make every reasonable effort to accommodate you, though significant delays may require rescheduling. Cancellation & Rescheduling We understand pilot schedules can change due to flight operations, weather, and training demands. We appreciate at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling so the appointment can be offered to another pilot. Late cancellations or missed appointments may result in a prepayment requirement for future bookings, with reasonable consideration given for unexpected operational circumstances. Missed Appointments Repeated no-shows may result in restricted scheduling privileges or a prepayment requirement for future appointments. Payment Payment is due at the time of the appointment unless prepaid online. FAA medical exams are generally not billed to insurance. MedXPress Requirement MedXPress completion is required before your FAA exam can be performed. Appointments may need to be rescheduled if MedXPress is not completed in advance. Certification Outcomes Exam performance and application submission do not guarantee medical certification. Some cases require FAA review, additional testing, or deferral under FAA regulations. Waitlist An optional priority waitlist is available for earlier openings. If a slot becomes available, we will notify you and offer it on a first-response basis.
